Ready for a Ride on Santa's Cable Car?
My sister loves the holidays: the presents, baking, winter music, scarf- and beanie-wearing, and pictures with Santa. She's lots of fun. This year, she invited us to take the Polar Express to see Santa -- and although I'd love to watch my nephew take his first train ride, for some reason, the idea of paying big bucks to sit in a small space full of caroling children didn't thrill me. Grinchy of me, yes.
Instead, she and my brother-in-law brought Cable Cars to our place. Cinnamon, spice, and orange zest in a frosty glass ... definitely a new holiday tradition!

The Inspiration My sister found the Cable Car cocktail recipe in a Bon Appetit magazine, cut it out, and pasted it in her cocktail book for a special occasion. We modified it a bit to make it less sweet and easier to make. ~Shelly |
The Drink
: Cable Car 1 1/2 oz simple syrup 2 1/2 oz spiced rum 1 1/2 oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or Curacao -- not the blue stuff or your drink will turn green) juice of 1/2 of a lemon Rim: Mix 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon and 1 tablespoon sugar. Wet rim of glass with lemon wedge to get mixture to stick. To avoid being overly sweet, rim half the glass for the scent. Shake well. Pour into chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a twist of fresh orange peel. |
Be smart, safe, and healthy during the holidays. Drink in moderation. Don't drink and drive. We thank you.
