Happy New Year!
This year, we were lucky to have several good friends visit from out of town. There's just nothing better than a house-full of friends, newly downloaded lounge music turned up just loud enough to make everyone raise voices, dancing candle-flames, and a table of small bites.
We stuffed dates with blue cheese, paired Gorgonzola and fig jam with piles of Prosciutto, poured blackberries in bowls, and drizzled creme fraiche over smoked salmon and bagel chips. Of course, we also served up lots and lots of French 75s -- our favorite sparkling white wine cocktail.

The Inspiration : It's 2009! Our happy hour toast: May your friends and family wear smiles, your home be warm and secure, and the bubbles of your French 75 tickle your nose (and not splatter all over your kitchen). Cheers! Happy new year! ~Shelly & Gary |
The Drink
: French 75 1 oz gin juice of 1/4 lemon (about a teaspoon) splash of simple syrup (or dissolve one sugar cube with the lemon juice) Champagne or sparkling wine (gently uncork and set aside) Shake all ingredients over ice EXCEPT wine. Pour into a cocktail glass and top off with sparkling wine. Garnish with a twist of lemon peel. Not crazy about gin? Replace it with Cognac for a sparkling golden drink. |
Be smart, safe, and healthy. Drink in moderation. Don't drink and drive, especially on New Year's! We thank you.

Those drinks were amazing! Thanks for being such great hosts. It's always a pleasure to visit the lounge, and this time it was a welcome respite from the bustle of the holidays. Hope to share more fabulous drinks with you very soon. Happy New Year!
