Holiday Cheer from Your Hosts at Thursday Happy Hour!
We've been celebrating Thursday Happy Hours for a while now -- as you can see from this photo of us apparently taken in 1957. Okay, sure, Gary is handy with the Photoshop, but we still had a great time sipping Stingers -- our holiday favorite -- and being silly with a trip-pod and camera remote while winter tunes thumped the house. Doesn't everyone do this kind of thing during the holidays?
|
The Inspiration My first introduction to the Stinger is in Cary Grant's 1957 film Kiss Them for Me Grant is a Navy war on shore leave in San Francisco where he has a party with all his Navy buddies. Cary walks through the crowd topping off everyone's cocktail glass with with his shaker full of Stingers. I was a martini fan, but hadn't heard of a Stinger, so I looked it up in my book of cocktails |
The Drink Recipe
: Stinger 2 1/2 oz. brandy 1 1/2 oz. creme de menthe (the white kind, leftover from our Muddy Mint Slides) Shake over ice till really icy. Like really icy. Serve the minty-fresh concoction to all your friends in December. If you're not crazy about brandy, use gin instead, and you'll have a White Way. More holiday cocktail ideas. |
Seriously, don't drink these and drive anywhere. We worry.

Love the photo! So nostalgic and full of that wistfulness of old. We'll have to try this cocktail over the holiday.
