Here's mine: I was a 19-year-old cocktail waitress who didn't drink. When guests asked "what's good?" I suggested a Tequila Sunrise. Because it was pretty. And easy to carry on a tray.
I pushed a lot of Tequila Sunrises. I bet I made a lot of tequila stories happen. I don't think I actually tasted a Tequila Sunrise till recently. Surprisingly, they're really perky, happy drinks.
I should have suggested the cocktail for Sunday brunch.

The Inspiration : Sauza Tequila Our local Rite Aid had a fabulous sale on Sauza recently. We love Sauza for Margaritas -- it's got good flavor without that tequila funk so many people scrunch their nose at. We bought two bottles and are waiting for some Mexico-hot weather to shake up the Margaritas. In the meantime, cheers to the happy return of the Tequila Sunrise! ~Gary & Shelly |
The Cocktail: Tequila Sunrise 2 oz Sauza gold tequila 4-5 oz fresh squeezed orange juice 3/4 oz real grenadine syrup (we used Stirrings brand - made from pomegranates, not cherries) 2-3 dashes Peychaud bitters (the intense color really works and the added complexity is a nice balance to the sweetness) Pour tequila and orange juice into a tall highball glass filled with ice. Stir to mix. Gently pour grenadine over the top and add a couple dashes of bitters for some extra complexity. Garnish with an orange slice or twist. |
Be smart, safe, and healthy. Drink in moderation. Don't drink too much tequila, even if you're not driving. You don't want that story.
