First: blindfold all your guests. Or, perhaps a better idea, make this drink behind their backs. G chose the latter. Then shake, shake, shake over ice, pour through a strainer and sip. Can they identify the ingredients? Close your eyes, slip, slurp. Is it gin? Is it bourbon? It must have bitters. I was way off -- and he made me guess for a long time.
It's a bright but smoky, clean summertime cocktail. Loved it. But if I had known the ingredients, I would have never ordered it.

The Inspiration : In the Land of Cocktails This cocktail recipe is from a book Shelly's mom bought us -- In the Land of Cocktails -- written by two cousins and owners of Commander's Palace in New Orleans. These women know their cocktails -- many of them Caribbean inspired (and we love the Caribbean). It's a fun book to thumb through and find interesting cocktail names and combinations. Cheers! ~Gary |
The Cocktail: Between the Sheets* 1 oz brandy 1 oz dark rum (we love Meyers or Pussers) 3/4 oz fresh squeezed lemon 3/4 oz triple sec a small plate of sugar Wet the rim of the glass with the lemon and dip into the sugar to create a sugar rim (or leave it off for those guests who don't like it too sweet). Shake ingredients over ice and pour into cocktail glass. Serve with a twist. *Adapted from In the Land of Cocktails |
Be smart, safe, and healthy. Drink in moderation. Don't drink too much rum, even if you're on a deserted island, and there's nothing left to drink. Collect rain water in banana leaves or something.

Sounds yummy! could a basic Cognac be used in place of Brandy? They are pretty much one and the same after all.

GTOJack: Absolutely! As you know Cognac is just brandy made in the Cognac region of France (don't tell any Frenchman I said that though. Fierce pride in that region!). Sort of like Champagne vs. Sparkling white wine from California.
Enjoy!

Tried it last night and colour me impressed! I might adjust the proportions slightly, but that's the fun of mixology!
Cheers!
