After a run on the Ocean Beach pier, I had fish on my mind. Doesn’t seem to matter when I'm out there -- day or night, spring or fall -- I see poles lined up along the railings and people kicking back, waiting for a bite.
I am not much of a fisherman. But I am a fan of fish. And of Ballast Point Brewery -- where almost every beer is named after a fish. So for dinner that night, it was sushi and a bottle of Ballast Point Calico Amber Ale.
This is a solid amber ale. Full flavored, but nothing too over the top. So this beer pairs well with lots of things – especially spicy tuna rolls that can stand up to the crisp, hoppy finish.
Plus, it won't completely cancel out my runner's high, clocking in at 5% ABV.

Want this beer? Calico is easiest found in California, but Ballast Point beers make it east to west. Check out their list of distributors here.

Speaking of beer and fish themes, I noticed that Sea Rocket Bistro in North Park SD recently did a Ballast-Point-beer-and-tuna-pairing night. They paired their Calico with a tuna melt. Mmmm, sounds good.
