Free Red Wine
I never turn down free wine. So when I was offered a tasting at one of my local liquor stores last weekend, I gladly accepted. “Well, what do you like?” he asked.
“Cabernet, usually,” I admitted.
He poured me a tiny plastic cup of Argentine Malbec. “Something I recommend to Cabernet drinkers when they want to try something a little different...”
It was, indeed, similar to a Cabernet with its tannins and fullness of
flavor. Yet different. The wine was rich, full of spiciness and tasted
of blackberry. I bought a bottle.

So on a busy weekday—when there was no time to make anything for
dinner for my family except a quick phone call to my local pizza
joint—I opened the bottle.
There’s something magical about a glass of red wine—how it turns even a meal of pepperoni pizza into a special occasion. This Argentine Malbec from Don Miguel Gascón added an understated touch of sophistication to our otherwise mundane dinner, thanks to its rich purple hue and complex flavor.
My husband and I leaned back into our cozy couch with our slices in hand, and toasted to simple suppers and elegant wines.

Thanks for the food - wine pairing idea Diane! Seeking magic is the best excuse -- I mean, reason -- for getting pizza delivered. And you were right on; the pizza and wine paired up perfectly.

Pizza and a good red is just about as sublime and simple as a food/wine pairing gets. I think many wine drinkers tend to save the best wines for the best meals but a good wine can speak for itself AND elevate the most basic of dishes. Nice.
