Floating Around on the East Side
Friends with a pool are always appreciated. Friends with a newly surfaced pool who live in the warmer eastern portion of San Diego simply spoil us. Baskets of chips and trail mix, a lazy golden afternoon sun, and a round of poolside "punch" for everyone made this one very happy September evening.

South Side Fizz 2 oz gin or dark rum (we used Mt. Gay) 1 teaspoon simple syrup or fine sugar Juice of 1/2 lemon 4 or 5 fresh mint leaves top with soda water garnish with mint With a muddler or bar spoon, bruise the mint in a shaker. Add all ingredients except soda water and shake with ice. Strain into rocks glass of ice, top with soda. Stir gently. Garnish with mint. Ahhh. |
Swimming while drinking (a lot) can be dangerous -- especially if you are prone to attempting daredevil backflips into the semi-shallow end. Be sure you have a strong, responsible, sober person around to talk some sense in you. Or, when mixing these drinks, pour heavy on the soda water and lemon and drink slowly.
