Flying Fish
Living in a landlocked state, I'm always a little leery about trying the fish-of-the-day at my local restaurant. Who knows where that fish came from, and how long it took to get here? So, when I was visiting Seattle this past weekend -- where I could actually see the water the fish called home -- I couldn't wait to order the local salmon...and a glass of Pacific Northwest wine.

My family and I grabbed a booth at a casual bar & grill that overlooked the Pike Place Market and its famous fishmongers in their orange waders. As a crowd gathered on the street to watch the fresh fish fly, I dug into my own charbroiled salmon, topped with a butter dill sauce. An Oregon Pinot Noir was the perfect accompaniment to the meal, a taste of the best the region has to offer.
We hurried back to our hotel in the pouring rain, a fitting end to a quintessential Seattle experience.

Diane, you're making me homesick! After I moved to San Diego I pretty much gave up on getting good fresh salmon (fortunately Oregon Pinots are still quite good and available here in Southern Cal).
